EXO 02 125
C&P Exotica Lights 2002
Number of tracks: 16
Total time: 73'00

In fact, we planned to finish the series with the previous collection "Tell Tchaikovsky the News. Part Four", but there was so much interesting and really talented musical material coming to us from very different towns in last several months that we've changed our decision. That's why we are proud to represent you the new collection.

Issued with the support of: "16 tons" club and "Vremena Goda" Trading house, as well as "PTUCH connection" journal, "Zvuki.ru" portal, "Stereo&Video" magazine, "Ozon" Internet shop, "Turne" agency, "Afisha.ru" web-site, "Play" journal, "Ne Spat'!" journal and "Fuzz" journal

"Tell Tchaikovsky the News. Part Five" tracklist:

1. Bon juorno, Gracia! - Brothers In Mind/Cheliabinsk/Moscow

The main style of Brothers in Mind is quasi pop, in which they skillfully combine retro melodies with the new wave design and the latest achievements of modern dancing electronics. Being fond of experiments and searching for multiple genres they often invite very different artists: balalaika, bayan, piano-flute players.

2. Elements of House - Velvet (UBIK art-group) /Rostov-na-Donu

The main activity of UBIK art-group, which includes the musicians of Velvet and KSP projects, are DJing, remixes and their own tracks production. Moreover, guys have their own radio program to popularize their own projects as well as the musical projects from Rostov and the region, corresponding with the format, and also to foster the listeners' taste. Velvet - is a tandem of Anton Lazarev and Georgy Ermolenko. Their "light" music is based on classic and jazz schools, uses live guitar and program software of Native Instruments company.

3. Hoox - Nuclear Los' /Novosybirsk

They call the music Nuclear Los' plays with a delicious word - porno jazz: "This is not when you play jazz but when you play with jazz. First of all this supposes a special atmosphere - hot, rich, night and smoky". Porno jazz looks like elegant alloy of acid-jazz, trip hop and light cocktail music. The brand style of Nuclear Los' is DJing, free mixture of moods. Before the concert the musicians negotiate only a choice of elements and sound landscapes, all the rest appears in the process of playing. Formally, Los'es are ascribed to easy listening or lounge, but, in fact, the things they create are more like sound design - live instruments plus computer technology and improvisation passages of the members.

4. Soda water - Burunduk Quartet vs Krivitsky /Izhevsk/Moscow

Burunduk Quartet was one of the first who began to play lounge in our country. This is a light and easy music for relaxation that differs by a harmonious delicacy, unobtrusive humor and easy comprehension. Their first full album releases under Exotica Lights label in 2000 with the romantic sado-culinary name "Stuffed Horse" met very enthusiastic reviews. The solo project of Iakov Krivitsky is based on his passion to music from movies of the 60ths, lounge-core and easy listening. Soon after the issuing of his debut album "Head without Rider" under Exotica Lights label Krivitsky interrupted his cooperation with Exotica but less then in half a year he turned back to issue his second album "Cafe Automat".

5. What is Your Name? - Zoom.ra /Moscow

The members of the very young project are Vladimir Razkevich, the famous musician, and his permanent co-author Oleg Litvishko. Zoom.ra in essence is something like a "sub-label" that fastens together all the previous experiments at the electronic scene including "Ra-Zoom" studio and the scenic project Electric Future. Zoom.ra is a unique sound show within the limits of progressive exploring music. They use very carefully selected equipment and many specially chosen voice, noise and musical pieces as well as unique authors’ technologies for working with what they create. Style diversity is extremely large: jazz, soul, funky, rock, blues, hip-hop, techno, drum'n'bass, soundtracks, poetry, electronic tricks and much unexpected harmoniously exist together in a developing mixture. "What's your name?" composition represented in the collection is a harbinger of the approaching album of this unordinary project. The release is planned on the 29th of May under the Exotica label.

6. To Fell In Love With Gurtchenko (radio version) - Bigudi /Kaliningrad

Vigorously Indulged People (VIP) - Bigudi - are also known as Membrana, Membranoids, Cincinnatus, John Silencer Infra-Jazz Quintet, etc. Bigudi's music is a multiband record together with a very nice way of contemporary life after a workday. It is best for a diplomatic reception, soft drinks, dancing party at Baykonur, a synchronous spiv session, a new minimokick model presentation and other traditional ways to spend spare time. Their debut album "Moscow Trusted Tears", issued under Exotica Lights label not far ago reveals the details of such styles as sov-lounge, cello-funk, freakadelia, popsover, electro-4-ass and the like. "To Fell in Love With Gurtchenko" is a radio version of one of the track from album mentioned above.

7. S-Track - Los Chikatilos /Kaliningrad

The duet many times has been recognized as the best dance project both in Kaliningrad and Russia. In October 2001 the album "Guten Organ" was released under Exotica label and was a clear demonstration that Los Chikatilos are fairly called one of the best electronic groups in Russia. The musicians work in various styles and trends: trip-hop, dub, ambient, funk, drum'n'bass. Today the duet is among the few electronic groups who always play live music and prefer to create music in real time going without phonograms.

8. Atlonsamba - KSP (UBIK art-group) /Rostov-na-Donu

KSP - is a solo work of Georgy Ermolenko that imbibes the experiments beyond the musical conception of Velvet. The style of the project lies between IDM and parodies to various genres (up to Russian cabaret).

9. Caviar With Spoons - Yellow Head/Saint-Petersburg

The first step on Alexander Ilyin's aka Yellow Head creative way was his participation in 1991-1992 in an odd group called "Stinky", whose peculiarity consisted in an absolute neglect to sound quality and intentional non-melodiousness of the instruments used. Little Sasha knocked at window-frames with spoons and yelled songs in Finnish and other languages he didn't know. But since 1999 he is busy with the electronic music and prefers acid jazz and "tekkno". Yellow Head is the member of the Petersburg creative unite "56 STUFF" and has released six albums with their support.

10. Simple Song - COPY /Arkhangelsk

COPY is a unite of bass guitar Andrei Sadkov (Sad), keyboards Ilia Panteleev (Martin Pantel), solo guitar and the manager of electronic percussion Alexander Fleorov (outmaker) and the "session" vocals Denis Kozlov. The story of the group began in 1998. First rehearsals gave several trip-hop themes already forgotten now. Later the brand style of the group named trip-beat was found that was a succession from trip-hop with the elements of drum'n'bass to bigbit and disco-house inside. "Simple Song" piece is a bygone fruit of home experiments of outmaker with "abnormal" guitar chords.

11. The Techniques of Falling - Zhgli Dub /Moscow

The group Zhgli Dub was created in 1997. All the electronic melodic potential of the Gomel musicians Lifan and Valik accumulated took the form of a team project. The trend the group follows appeared quite early. To make the band complete in a sense of creativity they invited the "free lance saxophonist" Moriarty. As the members themselves say, their music is made of poetry, drama art, meditation, harmony, muse, something intangible, ephemeral, light, but inseparable from soul and body, the outer world, nature, city. Ultimately, the style was determined by, of course, journalists as - new jazz, fusion, with ethnic melodies, and since the musicians prefer to play in clubs and professionally arranged open-airs, their music possesses a deliberate dancing rhythm.

12. Summer - S.P.U.L. /Tomsk

For Sergey Shpul a work with music started as early as in 1990 while he studied at school. He was a bass-guitar player in a young group that tried to play trash-metal but soon after a half a year he changed seats to drums and didn't stood up for quite a long time. After he bought a computer he completely plunged into solo work. S.P.U.L. project exists since 2000. The two albums - "Siding" and "Betweening" - came out under the English label HandHeldHalo Productions. He keeps of giving stylistic definitions for this music but says it embodies the dark side of his nature.

13. Strange and Empty - Idioritmik /Moscow

The solo project of the famous Moscow musician Roman Lebedev. He has a big experience of working with groups that play guitar music. In the middle 90ths the virtuoso guitar-player lefts Korrosia Metalla and begins to experiment with electronic instruments and computer technologies combining his efforts with different progressively thinking musicians. Roman is one of the creators of Volga project and cooperates with it till nowadays.

14. Along the Hill - Volga /Moscow

Within the limits of this unusual project the modern music and the elements of original Russian folklore are united with the ritual ethnic motives. Volga's rhythm is based on dub, trip-hop, house, along with atmospheric ambient, acoustic percussion and ecologically clean melodies. The song texts are authentic pieces of 12-19 centuries. In 1999 Exotica label issued their debut album that destroyed the monopoly of decorative pseudo-folk groups on the utilization of Russian native heritage. Today the group successfully gives performances abroad. Now the two full albums are almost ready for release, one of which represents the most popular arrangements of their songs and the other reflects the experimental side of the project. Moreover these disks will include several remixes made by their friends and colleagues - T.A.Lab, Spies Boys, MOX, Species of Fishes and others.

15. Call - La Lettre A Camus /Ekaterinburg

From the very first breath the group keeps trying to save anonymity: "for people who know the name of our project this should be enough. That's all. As for our names...What are they for?» The age of the project stays undefined: "About 5 years ago we understood what kind of music we wanted to play and a year after something came in". The musicians have already recorded several self-released albums and promise to issue a couple more soon. Speaking about the trend they follow La Lettre A Camus note in practice they always get something opposite (or parallel) to what they planned to make when they start.

16. Sleepy Lady - Mombus & Bacteria /Murmansk

At his home studio Mombus processes post-digital aesthetics of the following styles: glitch-easy, casio core, sound design. Also he cooperates with the Murmansk jazz and hip-hop musicians. As the author of the project says music for him is not just a view into the modern life, but an attempt to reflect the connection between his person and technologies, communications as well as an expression of his attitude to the traditions and culture of North.
